Flexible Grouping for Germany between the Wars

Objective: Students learn about the role of propaganda in Germany

WHOLE CLASS INSTRUCTION

Teacher is to explain the roles of various figures in Germany including Joseph Goebbels and Leni Riefenstahl. Have worksheets, pictures and videos to cater for different learning styles.

SMALL GROUP/PARTNER INSTRUCTION

Break up into partners or groups of 4 or 5 (depending on class size). The groups will play different roles: Joseph Goebbels, Leni Riefenstahl, a Jewish person, a British politician and an everyday German. Students aim to see German propaganda through the prespectives of each of these people- how would it make them feel?

INDIVIDUAL INSTRUCTION

Students have the choice to: design a piece of propaganda to show Germany as glorious (steer clear of allowing them to replicate examples of anti-Jewish propaganda for obvious reasons!) OR to research the institutions that made the propaganda in this time period. If they have other appropriate ideas, allow them to go with their interests.
